Peter Cooper was coming over for our first co-writing session ever. I got up early that October morning to be sure I had an idea to share. This particular October Nashville morning was much like one back home in Pennsylvania, gray and rainy. “Feels Like Home” was my comment to Peter, and we talked of leaving home, missing home and not really ever being able to go back cause it just doesn’t fit anymore. Melancholy sums up the emotion here. Anyone who has moved away from home to chase a dream knows how this one feels.

It’s prettier in clouded memory
And just today a north wind came
Tapped my shoulder, brought the grey
And a chill I know by heart came over me

In a town I used to know
Anytime it looks like rain, it feels like home

You can change the present but not the past
Too many times I’ve heard that
Days like these don’t scare me anymore
There was a time when one blue breeze
Knocked me down to me knees
Now all it does is open up a door
